For Immediate Release:
March 20, 2020
Precautionary Closing Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
The Farmington Area Public Library District will close starting March 21, 2020. This decision follows Gov. Prtizker's mandate to “shelter in place.” Currently, we plan to reopen on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. We will continue to monitor the situation and reassess as local/national information changes.
Even though our doors will be closed you will be able to use the library without visiting by downloading eBooks and listening to downloadable audiobooks. The following link will take you to the library catalog. Along the left side of the page you will see information about these online services and the apps needed to access them. https://alsi.sdp.sirsi.net/client/en_US/FarmingtonAreaPLD/
All Library Programs and use of the meeting room have been cancelled until further notice.
Closing the library is a difficult decision that has only been made because of these extraordinary circumstances. The health and safety of our patrons and staff is our first priority. We feel that closing the doors of the library is the best way to protect the health of our community at this time.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding the Coronavirus, Illinoisans may learn more from the State website https://www2.illinois.gov/sites/coronavirus/Pages/default.aspx , Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): https://www.cdc.gov/ and Illinois Department of Public Health http://www.dph.illinois.gov/
As this is an everchanging event, we will continue to monitor the coronavirus outbreak to ensure the library’s response is proactive and prioritizes public health while balancing the need for public services.
